My joy is tailoring your home to you, with sustainable details that serve your real life.
Hello! I’m Tammy—a residential green architect of nearly three decades, a sustainable home design nerd, a gardener, a climber, a reluctant runner, and an Alaska gal at home in Bozeman, Montana since sometime last century.
Good residential architecture is art, math, and soul collaboration.

In architecture, details matter—so I handle each one of yours personally.
Frog Rock Design is a one-woman shop, intentionally. Your project has my full attention during each step, from our initial conversation to turning the blueprints over to the builder. To me, every piece is important and worth considering, so I never pass off “the easy stuff”. The “easy stuff” is often the most critical. It’s just me, and my nearly three decades of experience—100% behind every part of your sustainable home design process.
Welcome to the only “Not So Big” Architect in Montana
For most clients, sustainability starts with a right-sized home—an idea popularized by Sarah Susanka’s “Not So Big Home” concept. Green home design isn’t about tiny houses, and it’s not against large mansions—it’s about a space sized for your actual life, where every inch is lived in and loved. Most clients are pleasantly surprised that a well-designed home is smaller than what they thought they needed—and feels even bigger than they ever imagined.

We live in every inch of our home and don’t find ourselves wishing for more space, different space, or any changes whatsoever.”

My architecture aesthetic is the one that reflects you most.
Some architects are known for their singular aesthetic…I’m not one of them. I’ve crafted projects in a whole range of styles across Bozeman, Montana, Wyoming and beyond – from Modern Farmhouses in rural locations to Craftsman or Modern Scandinavian infill in the heart of Bozeman, Montana. My calling is unearthing a style uniquely suited to you.
(That said, you’ll see my personal aesthetic in my studio (warm wood, airy ceilings, and great light) located on the Southside of Bozeman.

Growing up, I didn’t play with dolls. Instead, I built them homes.
Those (recyclable!) cardboard constructions that I built and rebuilt sparked a lifelong passion for me.
I’ve designed green residences and buildings in Bozeman since the late 90s (working with those that set some of the first sustainability and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards in town).
After working for a local firm that focused heavily on designing sustainable buildings for Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, I founded Frog Rock Design in 2000 (along with my treasured business partner Ann, now retired).
I’m a green systems geek through and through (don’t get me started on wall system design), and I love sharing my knowledge and experience. While running Frog Rock, I also taught at Montana State University, rejoicing in my students’ successes—especially when they cleaned up awards at competitions.
I’ve furthered my own education too, certifying as a National Association of Home Builders (NHAB) Green and Master Green Professional in 2008 and completing EMU—Passive House Design/Build Course in 2022. Creativity, art, and learning in any form fascinate me, so Frog Rock proudly sponsors the Bozeman Doc Series and The Bozeman Film Society.
Recently in 2020, I won Bozeman’s Beautification Award for Innovative Infill for a sustainable residential architecture project on South Church.
