Site-specific design
A large corner lot with plentiful south exposure allowed for passive solar design and enjoyable outdoor spaces on all sides of this home. A covered walkway connects the main house to a detached garage with an office/studio above. This creates a private, north-facing courtyard, which provides a shady oasis during hot summer days. On the south side, landscaping and fencing provide privacy for a tucked away patio to enjoy morning coffee or a glass of wine.
Client goals and house design mission
This couple had multi-generational goals to create a new home to enjoy their retirement and a place for their kids, family and friends to gather. They were also interested in sustainability and a home that connects outdoor space to the inside. The mission of the house design was to create a sustainable structure that requires low maintenance, is durable, allows for aging in place, and saves energy. They prized connection to nature and socializing with their peeps.
